NATIONAL REGISTRY:
All new EMTs must take the NREMT Exam to be certified. These exams will be administered by Pearson Testing Center. Check with your training facility or your training officer.
Question:
If the teen takes the National exam before 18 years old and passes the Assessment exam and gets the NJ EMT, does he or she have to retake the National Exam when 18?
Scot Phelps, DOH
"They take the EMT course, their instructor checks off that they are eligible to take the assessment exam.
The student schedules the exam at Pearson Vue center, takes the exam, and the National registry tells OEMS. OEMS issues the provisional license"
.
As per Candace Gardner, DOH
"The only difference in the process for individuals under the age of 18 is the exam selection. When creating an account with the NREMT these individuals will select “Assessment” exam instead of “NREMT” exam. The rest of the process remains the same.
If an individual took and passed the Assessment examination he/she does not have to obtain a NREMT certification when they turn 18 years old. If he/she turns 18 and wishes to obtain a NREMT certification, he/she would need to contact the NREMT registrant services to update the examination score from the Assessment NREMT.
Please keep in mind that the NJ does NOT require anyone to obtain or maintain the NREMT certification."
